Liver tumours can occur either as primary liver cancer, most commonly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), or as liver metastases, where cancer has spread to the liver from another part of the body. Whether primary or secondary, these tumours can have a significant impact on liver function, overall health, and the direction of cancer care. In some patients, they remain silent in the early stages, while in others they may cause abdominal discomfort, fatigue, reduced appetite, weight loss, or abnormal liver function. Because the liver is both a vital and sensitive organ, management must be carefully individualised, taking into account the nature of the tumour, the condition of the surrounding liver tissue, and the patient’s broader clinical picture. In selected cases, a focused, non-invasive approach to local tumour control may play an important role in supporting effective treatment while helping to preserve healthy liver tissue.
