Laser Ablation - PLDD

Minimally Invasive Treatment Technique

Treatment Solution

Laser ablation is a minimally invasive treatment technique that uses focused laser energy delivered through a fine optical fiber to target selected tissue with precision. Depending on the clinical application, laser energy may be used to cut, vaporize, shrink, coagulate, or seal tissue while helping to reduce unnecessary trauma to surrounding areas.

At Healthcon, this treatment option is supported by GigaaMed medical laser technology, designed for use across multiple specialties including ENT, Gynaecology, Urology, PLDD, and BPH management. GigaaMedical lists surgical laser applications including ENT, gynaecology, urology and PLDD among its medical laser product areas.

Disease Overview

What is PLDD?

PLDD, or Percutaneous Laser Disc Decompression, is a minimally invasive spine procedure used for selected patients with contained disc herniation. A herniated disc may press on nearby nerves and cause symptoms such as lower back pain, leg pain, neck pain, numbness, or discomfort that affects daily movement. In suitable cases, PLDD may help reduce pressure inside the disc using controlled laser energy delivered through a fine needle or optical fiber.

Clinical Applications

How GigaaMed Laser Ablation Treats PLDD

GigaaMed laser technology delivers controlled laser energy into the intervertebral disc through a fine needle or fiber under imaging guidance. The laser energy vaporizes a small amount of disc material, helping to reduce internal disc pressure.

By lowering pressure within the disc, PLDD may help reduce nerve compression-related symptoms in selected patients with contained disc herniation. The GigaaMed reference describes PLDD as a minimally invasive outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia, using thin needle insertion without cutting, scarring, bone removal, or muscle damage.
