Symetrex™ LT Hemodialysis Catheter

SYMETREX was developed with a clinical focus on preserving vascular access and supporting more consistent dialysis delivery over time. Its design philosophy is centred on addressing common functional limitations associated with traditional long-term hemodialysis catheters, with the aim of improving performance while supporting better patient management.

Symmetrical Tip Design

The catheter features a novel symmetrical tip engineered to help minimise recirculation in both forward and reverse flow configurations. According to the brochure, this design demonstrated less than 1% recirculation in vitro, supporting efficient flow dynamics and reliable haemodialysis function when line reversal is required.

RF Tipping Technology

SYMETREX incorporates RF tipping technology to create smooth, rounded edges and a refined tip profile. This design approach helps address concerns associated with side-hole catheter configurations and is intended to support patency, reduce mechanical irregularities, and minimise locking solution loss.

Anti-Wall Suction Design

With its anti-wall suction configuration, SYMETREX is designed to maximise surface area and support increased fluid flow. This feature contributes to more dependable catheter performance by helping reduce positional flow limitations that may occur when the catheter tip comes into contact with the vessel wall.

High Flow, Lower Pressure Performance

The SYMETREX catheter is designed to support high flow performance while maintaining lower pressure characteristics. The brochure notes an 18% lower pressure gradient than Palindrome™ at a flow rate of 450 mL/min, reflecting its emphasis on efficient dialysis delivery and functional performance under demanding clinical conditions.

Reverse Line Capability

SYMETREX is FDA cleared to “reverse lines as needed,” an important practical advantage in haemodialysis settings where reverse flow may be required to maintain treatment continuity. This supports clinical flexibility while addressing a common real-world challenge in catheter-based dialysis access management.

Short Functional Tip

The catheter’s short functional tip is designed with anatomical considerations in mind, supporting placement strategies aligned with access recommendations and right atrial dimensions referenced in the brochure. This contributes to a more purpose-driven tip design compared with longer conventional configurations.

User-Focused Handling Features

In addition to performance-driven engineering, SYMETREX includes practical handling features such as the Easy On – Easy Off Tunneler, tip protection design, secure attachment mechanism, and atraumatic release characteristics. Together, these elements are intended to support smoother handling during placement while helping protect catheter integrity.
